Partnering with UKSOL — A Chat with Guy Bastable

I had a great call this week with Guy Bastable, UKSOL's sales lead, to explore how we might work together and get an update on how the business is developing since plug-in solar became legal in August.

UKSOL had a strong showing at Solar & Storage Live at the NEC — their stand was one of the most prominent in the plug-in solar space, with kit on display and live demonstrations for both consumers and channel partners. Guy confirmed the show went well and that momentum has continued since.

What stood out from our conversation was how much the UK angle matters to UKSOL's customers. Guy noted that both end buyers and their channel partners genuinely value the UK warranty and the fact that they're buying from a British company. In a market where most solar kit is imported, that provenance carries real weight — more than you might expect.

UKSOL's kits are now available at Argos and City Plumbing, and Guy says they're selling well through both.

We also talked about batteries. UKSOL are keen to add battery storage to their range — they understand the benefits well, particularly for winter use when solar generation drops and the value of storing cheap overnight electricity becomes more significant. However, as things stand, you cannot legally connect a battery to the grid as a plug-in system under SI 2026/848. An electrician has to be involved for any battery installation, which adds cost and complexity. UKSOL are watching the regulatory picture carefully and are likely to move quickly when the rules allow a simpler solution.

One more piece of news from Guy — UKSOL are launching a Hybrid Wall Mount on 1 November 2026, allowing their kits to be mounted directly on a wall rather than requiring ground space or a roof. This is a significant expansion of who can use UKSOL kit, opening up the system to flats, terraced houses, and anyone without a suitable garden or shed roof. We will update the site with full details and pricing as soon as they are available.

More to follow as our partnership develops — watch this space.
